Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will find your driver guide representing Authentic Africa Safaris waiting for you. Have a quick read through the itinerary and then depart Kigali headed to Volcanoes National Park located in North western Rwanda. The drive time from Kigali to Volcanoes is roughly 3 hours via the beautiful rolling hills and local communities
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
The great day for meeting the endangered gorillas is today! In the early morning, have heavy breakfast at your lodge and transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters. Your lodge normally gives you packed lunch! Assemble at the park headquarters where you will be registered and briefed on what to expect on the gorilla trek, the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Start up a hike to meet the gentle giants in the bamboo forest of Volcanoes Park. The trek can last for up to 7 hours but you are 99% sure of seeing them at the end of the trek. Expect to meet other wild animals in this forest such as the golden monkeys, colobus monkeys and African buffalos among others. On meeting the gorillas, you will spend an hour with them! Keep a distance, embrace their social behaviors, take pictures and enjoy this lifetime experience. Volcanoes National Park is home to the highest population of gorillas in the Virunga Conservation Area.
Day 3: Dian Fossey grave hike & Cultural tour
Transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and safety guidelines for hiking Dina Fossey grave yard. A hike to the grave yard is to commemorate the tireless works of Dian Fossey who lost her life in trying to save the endangered gorillas that were at the verge of extinction. You may meet up some animals on the trail such as gorillas, golden monkeys and other primates in Volcanoes National Park. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village to learn and experience Rwanda’s traditions, norms and customs. Return to your lodge for an overnight
Day 4: Departure
Enjoy your last moments in Volcanoes National Park, check out and transfer back to Kigali for departure. Depending on the time of your flight, you can have a city tour through Kigali to embrace the uniqueness of this small city.
