Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up, city tour & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
The driver guide from Authentic Africa Safaris will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali. Go for a city tour to visit the Kigali genocide memorial center, Kigali convention center, Kimironko market and Inema market among other tourist destinations in Kigali. Have lunch in the city and drive north westwards to Volcanoes National Park
Day 2: 1st gorilla trekking & cultural tour
You will have your 1st day gorilla trek today. Have an early morning breakfast, get your packed lunch and transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi. Register with park wardens and assemble with other travelers to learn the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking and on what to expect on the gorilla trek. You will be given one gorilla family to visit on your group of eight. The trek starts at 8:00am guided by an armed park ranger. Folow the footsteps of your ranger guide trekking through the jungle. The allowed time with gorillas is an hour which starts from the moment you meet the allocated gorilla family. Later in the day if time allows, visit a nearby village to experience the cultures and traditions of Rwanda people
Day 3: 2nd gorilla trekking
Like on the previous day, rise up early, prepare and transfer to Kinigi headquarters where you will be registered and briefed for your 2nd gorilla trek. Today, you are visiting a different gorilla family from the one of yesterday. Enjoy a trek through bamboo forest searching for the gorillas. The forest is also home to other wild animals which include golden monkeys, velvet monkeys, black and white colobus. Expect a different gorilla trekking experience since each gorilla family is unique in its own kind. Double gorilla trekking offers you chance to compare the experience of trekking different gorilla families in the same national park. Volcanoes National Park is home to over 400 mountain gorillas which are habituated into 10 families. Each family has unique features different from the other families.
Day 4: Departure
Enjoy your cold morning sleep! Have a relaxed breakfast and drive back to Kigali to catch up with your departure flight.
