Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Forest
Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet and greet a driver guide from Authentic Africa Safaris. After refreshing, you will start off a full day drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park located in southwestern Uganda. The drive from Kampala to Bwindi is roughly 9 hours via Masaka, Mbarara and kabale with lunch enroute. Enjoy various stopovers to buy roadside foods, fruits, roasted maize, and meat which make the whole journey enjoyable. A drive through Ankole farms, banana plantations and rolling hills offer you beautiful sceneries for photography. You will arrive in Bwindi Forest in the evening.
Day 2: 1st gorilla trekking & transfer to Mgahinga park
You will have your first gorilla trek today! After morning breakfast at your lodge, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. Thereafter, you will be guided into the jungle to meet the endangered mountain gorillas. An encounter with gorillas is the best wildlife experience in the world. Enjoy the magical moment with your close relatives, see how the silverback acts like a dad while adult females are real mums. Take as many pictures as possible and capture live videos of gorillas feeding, resting and interacting together. The allowed time with gorillas is strictly an hour but it’s worth it. Bwindi Forest is home to over 450 mountain gorillas which makes it a premier gorilla tour destination in Africa. After seeing the gorillas, hike down, meet your driver-guide and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in Kisoro district. Relax at your lodge preparing for the 2n trek on the next day.
Day 3: 2nd gorilla trekking & cultural tour
Have an early morning breakfast and transfer to the Ntebeko visitor Information center for briefing and registration. Enjoy close moments with the one and only Nyakagyezi gorilla family in Mgahinga Gorilla National park. The Park is also home to the endangered golden monkeys which you may see. Other animals in the park include baboons forest elephants and colobus monkeys among others. Thereafter, you will visit Batwa local communities in the borders of the park to learn and experience the traditions, norms, customs and initial forest life of the Batwa pygmies. Mgahinga Forest National Park is also home to three extinct volcanoes i.e Mt Gahinga, Mt Sabinyo and Mt Muhabura which are part of the 8 volcanoes in the Virunga Conservation Area.
Day 4: Drive to Kampala
Enjoy a sunrise cup of coffee at your lodge in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, check out and drive back to Entebbe for your connecting flight.
